Welcome back everyone. Well, I certainly hope none of you are in the same situation as my fiancee’s friend who is heading out to the Hamptons this weekend to get hit by a hurricane (maybe?) If so, best of luck. For those of us stuck in town, the city will present a whirlwind (get it) of subway messes to deal with. The E train is being strange yet again and going to Herald Sq via the F or V line. The ceiling still needs fixing at 181 St so the 1 will not run between Dyckman and City College. And in a perfect example of unheralded service changes, folks in the South Bronx are now well into the second and maybe third month of no Manhattan-bound service on the 6 train. It gets no attention, but for residents between 3 Ave and Hunts Point it must be getting extremely old. Stay dry and Happy Tracks New York!
Welcome back everyone. I am headed to Citi Field so I will keep it brief. As of right now, the 1 is still out between Dyckman and 168th. The E is still running to Herald Sq. The A and F are still running a loop around the East River. The R is going over the bridge. Check it out and have a good weekend.
Welcome back New York! Well this is exactly the kind of weekend service change that I created this site for. It’s something that to read takes a long time to comprehend but looking at the map should make it much easier. For every weekend until September, the E train will look very different. For starters, all trains run between Jamaica Center and 34 St-Herald Sq. They travel in two different ways. The Queens-bound trains are normal, they stop at Herald Sq, Bryant Park, Rockefeller Ctr, and then make all E train stops to Jamaica Ctr. On the other hand, Manhattan-bound trains run local from Roosevelt Ave and then make all F train stops from Queensbridge to Herald Sq. To add confusion, all Queens-bound trains are express TO Roosevelt Ave and local FROM Roosevelt Ave. This includes the G making a Queens Blvd run during late night hours. If that doesn’t make sense (and who could blame you) check out the map! Happy Tracks New York!
Saturday Upadte: I don’t have the ability to edit the map this weekend due to an Adobe Illustrator problem, but there is a mistake on the D line. D lines run normally in Manhattan, disregard the station guide on 6th Ave that claims only Uptown D trains. To repeat, D trains run normally in Manhattan.
Welcome back New York. The big transit news this weekend has been Mayor Mike’s typically grandiose plan for transit. As is normal with Bloomberg, the plan doesn’t lack for big ideas. There’s the overdue call for arrival time boards on the subway (hear! hear!) a plan to reopen LIRR stations in Glendale, Richmond Hill, and Elmhurst (will two trains a day really make a difference?) Create free crosstown busses (homeless camp?) Create trolleys out of existing street track in Red Hook and LIC (charming and probably useless) and most pertinently an F express train in Brooklyn. For those not in the know, there are 2 unused express tracks on the Culver Line that stop at the secret lower leve at Bergen St, 7th Ave, and Church Ave. The track continues as a single track express to Kings Highway. Bloomberg is backing the frequent transit buff proposal to make the F express from Jay St to Church Ave and run the V local at all times from 71 Ave to Church Ave. It’s a proposal that was shot down my community groups some years ago but may have a chance of implementation given the growth of Park Slope and surrounding communities. The G could even return unharmed to it’s Smith-9 Sts terminus. Whaddya think everyone? The map is below. Happy Tracks New York!
