Halloween Weekend

Friday Update: I removed a few R train changes from last weekend that shouldn’t have been there. Anything connected to the R terminating at Herald Sq is gone. Two other notes, there is no Newark light rail this weekend, and all Queens-bound trains skip Northern Blvd all week (even rush hours) until next weekend.

I have to run to work but the map is posted. Have a great safe weekend everyone. I’ll be back back with corrections this afternoon. Happy Tracks New York!

Weekend of Oct. 24

Saturday Update #2: Queens-bound J trains skip Hewes, Lorimer, and Flushing on Sunday from 8 AM to 5 PM. The map has been edited.

Saturday Update: Westboudn Queens Blvd trains run express between Midnight tonight and Noon tomorrow. There are to major non-NYC advisories that affect many of you. For one, there is no Newark Light Rail service this weekend. Secondly, there is a MAJOR LIRR service disruption this weekend with no service to NYC on the Babylon, Far Rockaway, Long Beach, Greenport, and West Hempstead lines. The MTA is doing a good job with their preliminary information campaign and you can check out the video explaining everything. Of course, justbecause you got to Manhattan doesn’t mean your problems are over.

Welcome back NYC. Indian summer appears to have come and gone in about two days. But in the meantime, the E and R train continue to have a fond relationship with the Herald Square subway station as neither train seems to want to go beyond it. It will be the last stop for all downtown E and R trains once again this weekend. Other than that, it’s a standard slate of express/local runs and service interruptions. Click the map below to see your pain in the a** trip revealed! Happy Tracks New York!

Weekend of Oct. 17

FRIDAY UPDATE: I missed some Sunday changes such as downtown 4 and 5 trains running local on Sunday, or Manhattan bound D trains running on the N. There’s some late night changes too. And for future reference, if something is labeled “LATE NIGHT SAT” that refers to the early AM hours of Saturday

Welcome back NYC. It would appear that the mess underground last weekend has been replaced with a storm aboveground as a Nor’easter batters the city this weekend. I am an unabashed fan of blizzards so I wish it were a few degrees cooler so we could get some serious snowfall. Alas. However, the mess underground remains. Sure some of the lines are spared this weekend that weren’t last week (like the 4 or 7) but the most onerous changes of last weekend remain. There are still major disruptions on the A, E, F, G, L, R, 1, and 5 lines. Oh well, if you’re ride takes longer, that’s just more time between braving the storm. Every cloud has a silver lining after all. Happy Tracks New York!

NY Daily News Article

Thanks to all of those who checked me out over the weekend from the coverage in the Daily News on Sunday. Many of you may not have seen it (it was a small corner blurb below the fold on page 42) but it was a nice little article. Unfortunately, there does not seem to be any online content associated with the article. Doubly unfortunately, I was out of town and didn’t get my hand on a copy until this morning. So if you have this Sunday’s Daily News lying around, check me out on page 42. And thanks everyone for all the encouragement this weekend.

Weekend of Oct. 10

Saturday update: Everyone can disregard the Q terminus symbol at Prospect Park. it’s a leftover from last weekend.

Welcome back NYC. As the media has been correct to point out, this weekend appears to be the perfect storm of service changes. The NY Post is off to its usual tricks of getting outrage out of anyone who’ll give’m a quote. But it’s never a bad idea to publish a hellish weekend of service changes. You can check out all the colorful quotes from The Post. There has also been some chatter on SubChat and Gothamist about the topic. And thanks to the folks at SubChat for the shout outs! Yes, it is a crazy weekend. Shuttle buses are replacing trains on at least six lines (5, A, F, G, L, Rockaway S) with service eliminations on two other lines (E and R) that will be supplemented by other trains. None of this mentions the lines that have express runs for major sections (1, 4, 5, 7, C, D, J, Q). So it will be tough to get around this weekend, especially for folks enjoying the Open House New York activities. Thanks to everyone for the attention, and if you’re new here, just click the map for the PDF. Happy Tracks New York!

Weekend of Oct 3

Saturday Morning Update: I accidentally left the R running express in Brooklyn but that was from last weekend. R train service is normal in Brooklyn. Some uptown 2 trains will terminate at E 180 St tomorrow. That’s the major stuff. Stay dry everyone!

Welcome back New York. I just wanted to briefly say I appreciate the shout out on the NYC transit message boards from Matt91. And with that, on to the map. Things are much the same as last weekend. Despite the MTA’s claim that the service change would be for a mere four weeks, this is now the sixth (I think) week of E trains terminating at Herald Sq. And it has been most likely three months since 6 trains ran local between Hunts Pt and 3 Ave in both directions. So things continue unabated in MTAland and folks on Queens Blvd and 7th Ave and the Culver Line will just have to tough it out. Enjoy the weekend and Happy Tracks New York!

DISCLAIMER: The MTA will make changes to train service based on the
second-to-second needs of the dispatchers and conductors, as well as
making full day changes without informing the public.
