Welcome again straphangers. After all the snow we had in February, it will be nice to have a weekend where the temperatures reach the 50s. The downside of that is that the MTA is taking advantage of the opportunity too. There are some major construction projects to deal with this weekend and while Park Slope residents will be happy to have the F and G trains back, other folks will have a hard time getting around. Most notably, the 7 is once again stuck in Queens and the D is out of service between Atlantic/Pacific and Herald Sq. Remember to click on the tab on the right if you want to receive emails when the map is posted and click on the map below to see the damage. Happy Tracks New York!

Rejoice Carroll Gardens! For those who are unfamiliar, just click on the right for regular weekend service. While that will decrease traffic to the site, it will help everyone getting around this weekend. Happy Tracks New York!

Hey everyone. It’s another weekend of work for the MTA. I actually think it’s a pretty light weekend with most work being minor or late night stuff. However, there are still MAJOR changes to the 7, F, and G. The 7 is still stuck in Queens. The G is out of commission. And the F is out between Jay St and Church Ave. This severely limits the transit options in Gowanus, Cobble Hill, and surrounding neighborhoods. And to make matters in Gowanus worse? The Union St. bridge is out too. Happy Tracks New York!

Welcome Back NYC. Sorry for the late Friday update. I was waylaid by a complete change in work on the 8th Ave and 7th Ave lines between yesterday and today so I had to completely redraw the route of the 1, 2, A, C, D, and E. After all that, things should be correct but as this goes to show. These service changes are subject to change. Also of note this week is the beginning of an eighteen month project (at least) of rehabbing stations on the Pelham Line. This week, Morrison-Sound View Aves and Whitlock Ave stations were shut down for at least six months. This change is on the regular service map as well. Finally, it is a three-day weekend and some service changes will apply on Monday as well. The following trains WILL have service disruptions on Monday the same as Saturday and Sunday:

7, A, C, D, G, N, Q, R, 42 St Shuttle.

FRIDAY UPDATE: All weekend work has been canceled EXCEPT…………the 7 train.
Welcome back railfans. I am going to have an adventure on the rails this evening (Friday) as I had plans to drive down to DC with friends tonight. Well now, the roads are going to be damn near impassable so I have a ticket on board to 9:05 Amtrak run to DC. There is certainly a chance this could go all wrong but if anything is going to push through this big ‘ol storm, it’s a train. Speaking of which, be prepared for the MTA to cancel weekend service changes if there is significant snowfall in the city. Although like December’s storm, it is expected to be worse in NJ and on LI. If the work goes ahead as planned, it basically resembles last weeks. No G train. No 7 train on 42nd St and LIC. No 5 train in the Bronx. No R train in Lower Manhattan/Downtown Brooklyn. Plus some other changes. Click below to get the full picture. And since the Big Easy is my second favorite city after the Big Apple, Let’s Go Saints! Happy Tracks New York!

Sorry about the momentary lapse of a website earlier this week. Domain renewal difficulties. But everything is back up and running on SubwayWeekender, though the same can not be said for some of the subway lines in the city. This is the first of 10 weekends of no Manhattan and LIC 7 train service, as well as the middle weekend of no G train service. Although at least one person was quoted in a news story as saying she liked the G shuttle buses more because they came more often. On that note, click the pic below and see what is up this weekend. Happy Tracks New York!

Welcome back one and all. The good news is I got a new copy of photoshop so you once again have an aesthetically-pleasing (though for LIC and Greenpoint residents depressing) image to click on to get the map. Once again this weekend the G train is not in service and E train service has been rerouted on the F from Queens to 34 St-Herald Sq. I would assume that all this is to do with the new stairway and enclosed in-system transfer being built between the 7 train at 45 Rd and the E/G at 23 St/Court Sq. So at least there is a definite prize at the end of all this change because (hopefully) by spring there will be a full transfer there. Have a great weekend everyone and Happy Tracks New York!

Saturday Morning Update: I had the J train change a little wrong in my interpretation. J trains are running normally, but there is a separate special train (we’ll call it the S) making all stops from Essex St. to Prospect Park. So to reach Chambers St. from Brooklyn there is no need to change, but to travel to Fulton St and beyond, you must change between Essex and Chambers. Also, there is a major Queens A train change on Sunday with no trains between Euclid Ave and Lefferts Blvd all day Sunday. Rockaway Shuttle trains will stop between Far Rockaway and Rockaway Blvd/Liberty Ave. That is all.

Well it is a hard world out there this weekend on the NYC Subway. There are oodles of changes to make note of but first, some news. The first item is that in the MTA’s new batch of service cuts, the Christie St. connection may be restored. For those who don’t know, that is an active but unused track connecting the Broadway/Lafayette station to the Williamsburg Bridge. If this connection were opened again, it is likely that the V train would be extended to Middle Village (the current M train terminus) and the M would be eliminated. The biggest upside of this is that Williamsburg residents would have a direct ride to Midtown instead of all crowding on the L. The other big news is the MTA has a new website. It’s a nice improvement, but the best thing is the MTA released it’s scheduling and other data to app developers, so we should be seeing a slew of MTA-related mobile apps in the near future. Will a SubwayWeekender app be among them? I am no good as an app developer, but if any of you out there are, get in touch with me using the “contact me” section.

On to the service changes. Lower Manhattan and Western Brooklyn are messed up! There is no 4 or 5 train beyond Bowling Green and the J will run in two sections: Jamaica Center to Essex St and Essex St to Prospect Park via the R and Q lines in Brooklyn. The F is also running on the A going uptown between Jay and W 4 Sts. The R is on the F again between Midtown and Queens. And most importantly, NO G TRAIN! At all. For a month. Ugh. And in all this madness there is a silver lining. The Bronx can sit back and relax as there are no changes in the cities smallest borough. So there is always a light in the darkness. Happy Tracks New York!

Hey again everybody. I hope all of you in Flatbush and Crown Heights remember how to get to west side from last weekend because the 2 and 3 are once again not running in Brooklyn. I would personally recommend the transfer between the 4, 5, and Q trains at Atlantic Ave. And don’t count on the A train helping you out, it is once again not running between Jay St and Utica Ave. Another interesting twist is the R train will run on the F between 57 St/7 Ave and Queens Blvd. Looking at a normal subway map, it is unclear how this is possible. What most average straphangers don’t realize is that beyond the Q train center tracks at 57 St is an active track that turns East under Central Park and connects to the F line underneath Lexington Ave and 63rd St. This tunnel is how the Q will eventually be the first line under 2nd Ave and how the R ends up on the F this weekend. Big winners this weekend are Roosevelt Island residents who get TWO lines serving the little isle this weekend. I still have not worked out a new version of Photoshop yet so simply click on the link below. Happy Tracks New York!

Saturday Update 2: I just got word that 7 train maintenance work has been canceled. 7 Trains are running normal.

Saturday Update: An important note: Late night advisories on the 2, 3, and Q will extend until 8 AM Sunday morning. It was mostly minor and late night errors that were fixed. The meat is still the same. Although there is some confusion as to whether the 2 and 5 trains in The Bronx are actually running express. The MTA’s website still says they are. Have a good weekend.

Happy New Year everyone! I hope you had a fun New Year’s Eve and that you have a great weekend to go along with it. As a reminder, subways run on a Sunday schedule Friday. And then things go back to being weird on Saturday. You may have been getting used to normal weekends but you can throw all that out the window. The 2 and 3 are especially brutal this weekend with no Brooklyn service. The 4 and the 5 are extended to help but there is no way to transfer directly between the 4/5 and 1/2/3 in Manhattan (no 2/3 service at Fulton St) so there will be a free above-ground transfer between Bowling Green and South Ferry which is a 3-5 minute walk. My other addendum this week is that my Photoshop is not working due to my father-in-law deciding my computer needed an unsolicited tune-up and I haven’t figured re-installed it yet. Until I do, simply click the link below for the map. Happy Tracks New York!
